In our physics labs, we have configured a few content areas to hold the lab software, links for directions on how to install it, links for quiz software, etc. We basically have two buttons that we want to transfer to all the lab classes. If an instructor has access to both the destination and the source, you can just do a course copy, and select what you want. But, what if I wanted to pass these buttons to another instructor's class? In this case, I can export some of the content from my class, then send the other instructor that zip file, and he/she can import it in their class!
Step 1) First - let's export some content. Go to the Control Panel in the SOURCE course, and go to the COURSE OPTIONS menu. Select the EXPORT COURSE item.

Step 2) Select the items you want to export (since we are doing content .. this represents basically "two buttons" that I want to move over). Click SUBMIT at the bottom of the page.

Step 3) It will prepare the ZIP file, and give you back a link to that zip file ... right click and choose the "Save Target As ...".

Step 4) Name your file (I've added the date to mine to keep it organized) and click SAVE. This is the ZIP file that you can then email to the other instructor for their course .. and they can import it.

Step 5) Ok, let's pretend you are the other instructor, and you want to import that material ... On the DESTINATION course page, go to COURSE OPTIONS and select IMPORT PACKAGE (not cartridge!).

Step 6) If you know the location and name of the file, you can type it in, but browsing is usually easier - click BROWSE.

Step 7) The filename and location are filled in, but we also have to tell Blackboard what is coming over ... so we check the CONTENT checkbox. And then click SUBMIT at the bottom of the page.

Step 8) That should be it - the material should have moved over just fine ... but just to be sure, we need to check the content areas .. go to the COURSE OPTIONS and then the MANAGE COURSE MENU. Make sure that there are no missing numbers (and thus duplicate numbers) in the content list. (The example shown here is fine - whew!). If you DO have duplicates or missing numbers, check out this page to correct the duplicates problem in the content areas. {That listing of the courses has been "wrapped around" since it was so long - normally it just runs vertically down the page.}
