The MPC laptops from Fall 2005 might or might not include the driver/software to control the touchpad. I personally don't want to have the "tap" feature, and I don't want it to show in my toolbar (some might want to disable it completely, if they use an external mouse). If I don't have the software, how can I get the software?
A) First, let's see if you have the software already installed. |
B) http://mgcs.mpccorp.com/support/index.htmlhttp://support.mpccorp.com/downloads/index.htmlhttp://support.mpccorp.com/downloads/driver.htmlhttp://support.mpccorp.com/platforms/index.html?ID=2http://support.mpccorp.com/apps/syshub.asp?ID=351 . |

A) First, let's see if you have the software already installed. Do you see that icon in the toolbar by the clock? (You might have to "expand" the toolbar sideways to check.) Or, if you go in the Control Panel, and double-click on the MOUSE applet - do you get a tab in the Properties called device settings, and do you see "Synaptics Pointing Device"? If not, then it doesn't look like you have the software - read on. If you do see those things - skip down to Item H) to see the configuration choices. |
B) Links to the MPC download site. You might be able to just jump right to this link : http://support.mpccorp.com/apps/disclaimer.asp?FilePath=/Support/Notebook/T3000/NBK001838/WinXP/NBK001838_XP_Synaptics_Touchpad_5_9.exe ... if so, great - save that file locally and run it .. and then skip down to Item H) to configure it. |
C) Go to this link : http://support.mpccorp.com/downloads/driver.html and then pick Notebooks |
D) From the list - click on TransPort 3000. |
E) Then click on DRIVERS under Files and Documents. |
F) The first link under software "Series Driver CD" with the "-00" extension ... this should contain what we want. |
G) Scroll all the way down to the second to last item (make sure you are in the XP area ... you are looking for the "TouchPad" program. Right-click and save it locally (or run it) and then install it. You probably have to reboot the machine. |
H) Right click on the icon in the tray and select "Pointing Device Properties" (or go to the MOUSE applet in the Control Panel and select the DEVICE SETTINGS tab). In this case, I choose to not have it show up in the tray. But, you could have a static version show up, or an animated version. Notice that SETTINGS button - click that for the next screen below. |
I) If you click the SETTINGS button on the previous dialog box, you are taken to this program. I've click the TAPPING item on the left - and unchecked the Enable Tapping (thus, I have to use the "mouse buttons" to "click" on things). There are a bunch of other settings in that list that you might want to explore. |
