Putting the Word Equation Editor onto the main toolbar (LTU XP laptops)

Microsoft Word comes loaded with an equation editor - but it doesn't show up on the toolbar (where it would be useful). There are a few simples steps needed to place the "insert equation" macro onto the toolbar ("permanently").

If you look carefully, some of the screenshots will show toolbars that might look a little different from your toolbars - that's because this version of Word has been "Schneiderized" - using the "Schneider options" for Word - look at this page for information about customizing Word.

Here are the steps, on the XP laptops, to add the equation editor to the toolbar of Word (or any other Microsoft Office product):

Step 1) Open WORD and go to the VIEW menu. Select TOOLBARS, and then select CUSTOMIZE ....

Step 2) Select the COMMANDS tab, and then scroll down in the Categories and double-click on ALL COMMANDS. Then, in the right box under Commands, scroll down and find INSERT EQUATION - Click once to highlight it.

Step3) Now, click down (and hold the mouse button clicked down) and drag that "line" up to the toolbar in the location where you want the equation button to appear. (As your mouse moves up to the toolbar, it will change to an vertical "insert" symbol.) When you have placed it where you want, let go of the mouse, and you should see a button appear as indicated below.

Step4) To insert an equation, just click the mouse in the document where you want the equation, and then click that Equation button that you just place - it will open the equation editor and give you a little "edit box".

You should only have to do this install once (for each Office program you need the equation editor) - if you close down Word, and open it again, you'll find the button right where you left it ... enjoy!!
