COM1001 - University Seminar

Course Outline and
Course Objective:

This course is intended to introduce the student to skills vital to two
professions: college student and the one that you will turn to after college.
The need for energetic, imaginative team players who can communicate
well has been expressed over and over again, and we will work together to
polish these skills.


Constraints:
1 hour of class per week for 15 weeks

Plus, you must attend THREE Diversity Seminars over the course of the semester, and do the specified writing assignment regarding all three diversity seminars that you attend.

Final Numerical Grade Calculation:
Five 20% segments:
1.
In class assignments, like Excel/Word workshop assignment which will be due the day we work on it
2. Time Management Assignment -due October 12
3. Library Assignment - due October 19,
4. Cultural Event assignment - which is due November 2
5. Advisor Visit [due November 16] and other Class Projects - which are due as specified

Fraud Policy:
Cheating, copying another person's work, or other acts of academic dishonesty
will not be tolerated. Students involved in dishonest acts will receive a zero on
the work and a note to this effect will be placed on the student's file.

Week 5 - Group dynamics and laptops
Week 6 - Career Services
Week 7 - University Protocol, Policy and Procedure Review; Academic Honor Code and Student Code of Conduct Review
Week 8 - Core Curriculum Review
Week 9 - Time Management Assignment Part III: 60 Credit Plan; Assertiveness activity
Week 10 - Diversity Discussion
Week 11 - Q&A; Last day to drop discussion
Week 12 - LTU field trip
Week 13 - Cultural Event Discussion
Week 14 - Wrap up

Assignment #1a: Post a Digital Dropbox message AND a Discussion Board message [both in Blackboard].
In your message, state your name, the name of your high
school, the year that you graduated from high school, your preferred email
address, and what your major will be. You can send this message
any time, but I must receive the message my 12 noon on Wednesday,
September 14. For full credit there should be no
errors in your message.
